It has always been a fantastical goal of mine to do the ultimate coup de gras of rap production: a video and a song, si-mul-tan-eous-ly.
These are the fruits of one night's labors. They are raw and offered as is (for the time being). I will have a re-edited video (it will look even better!), a radio-friendly version of the song, and maybe some remixes eventually, but for now, sleep.
THE SONG (3.3 mb AAC)
THE VIDEO (7.8 mb MP4)
THE REMIX (3.2 mb AAC)
CENSORED VERSION (3.3 mb AAC)
for AAC files, it works best if you "Save Link As..."
Following the mandatory ilikenicethings.com editorial policy of pre-emptive self-reviewing:
This newest effort from the 40 girls labs, "Pass it," is valiant in its creative intent. Produced within the self-placed creative limitation of one evening, you can feel the heat crawling on this track. Some of this is from new talent; Tommy "Nordic Thunder" D makes his debut on this track, though admittedly his flow is so laid back as to temporarily make us forget a beat exists at all.
The hook, "Don't pass it up," is unforgettable, though the lines contrasting Facebooking and Tree-climbing seem to lack any sort of defining principle.
Overall, this single sees the most improvement in its lyrical complexity, with more complicated offerings from each of the MC's, served up with a nice southern big-band hot sauce of a beat. A big ole' "pretty good" for a one nighter.
